Having an endorsement of your service from a client in that customers network is a strong tool. Helping others with no material gain to yourself is a great way to grow relationships. Its worked for me over the past 25 years 🙂

Randy, actually I think that’s brilliant – as you noted you flip it around so the pay to play part goes away and it’s just a greater incentive to attract high quality content.

What do you think about bundling the “invited content” with some ad space. I have been invited to place ads on sites with a bonus if I sign up for the right package, I can write a blog post. This seems manipulative; so I’m wondering about using 1 ad space on my site and offering it for a month as a bonus if someone I invite submits content. Flip it around. The content is more important to me than the piddly ad revenue and it makes it a bonus I can give away without impacting my costs. I would typically limit this to solicited content from strategic partners. Just wondering if I’m missing the pitfalls of doing this.

You bet, plus now you just expanded the usefulness of that content too!

Thanks for the reminder!
